Our first Community
Outreach program took place in 2009. The L.A. Musical Salon sponsored a very successful afternoon children’s
program at the Westwood Branch Library, entitled “Lesanju the Elephant” performed by the Vientos Trio (oboe, clarinet and bassoon), which was attended by fifty to sixty 2- to 5-year-olds and their parents.

“Lesanju”
is an interactive musical adventure, which tells the story of Lesanju the elephant and her jungle friends.
Each
character has a musical theme and a unique movement which the children are asked mimic when that character’s theme is
played—for example, the children soar with outstretched arms and swaying body for Lesanju’s friend the little
bird.

This program also taught
the children about the three instruments, including an opportunity for the children to play the clarinet with the assistance
of the clarinetist. The program was coordinated with the Westwood Branch Children’s Librarian.
